Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs) Pre-Design and Master Plans
North Dakota and South Dakota
Client: United Tribes Technical College, Oglala Lakota College, and Sisseton Wahpeton College
Work in collaboration with Cuningham
As part of the Native Arts and Environmental Infrastructure Planning Grant through the American Indian College Fund, three concurrent design and planning efforts were conducted for the United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) near Bismarck, ND, Oglala Lakota College (OLC) near Kyle SD, and Sisseton Wahpeton College (SWC) in Agency Village, SD. The colleges are part of the Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCU) network.
The purpose of these efforts was to advance Arts and Environment Infrastructure Planning Projects and provide strategic long-range planning for environmental infrastructure improvements to TCU’s system in the upper Midwest.
Each effort had specific goals based on growth, adaptability, and resiliency strategies ranging in timelines and financial outcomes. The UTTC master plan update focused on providing a flexible framework to align financial resources with their Strategic Plan. The OLC efforts focused on campus experience opportunities and pre-design efforts within the Woksape Tipi building. Lastly, the SWC efforts focused on developing an environmental infrastructure analysis which helped with the creation of a campus resiliency toolkit facilitating an easier way to convey metrics and sustainability goals.
